I also see my dad struggling with his knees at 55 and my older colleagues struggling with back pains at the office. I believe that lifting decreases my chances of fucked up joints & vertebrae as I get older.

Lifting is one of the few things that is unquestionably "right" in my life. Even if you strip it of it's superficial perks the invested time to produced results ratio is just magical. You can literally lift heavy for fifteen minutes three times a week and be in your top 80% maximum condition.
