I had an old thin yoga mat laying around, so bought some PVC pipe and duct taped the mat around it tightly. Best foam roller Ive ever used, it's much harder than any storebought foam rollers and wont go softer over time.

The soft rollers are fine when youre just starting out, but youll soon want to upgrade to harder rollers. Eventually you mcan make do with a length of pvc pipe wrapped in grip tape. Super cheap, super hard and works great.
