The key is to go through several haircuts until you find a maintainable one that you like. There is also a lot of variation on the short back and sides look. Leaving a lot of length on top gives you a lot of customisation without having those pesky back and sides to deal with.

Caesar fade. A really short guard for the back and sides will make it look better.
Taper down to like a 2 on the sides, 2 or 3 inches on top. I would go shorter with the taper, but I have a beard and don't like for it to not connect
Makes it really easy to style in the morning. I just use a little bit of CVS brand Vitalis and use a stiff brush the top over for a part
I think the undercut is on it's way out slowly. It's still a slick looking cut but the very drastic cut off from a 1 to full length on top is being pushed to more of a blend on the way down, or just wearing the sides a little longer.
If you still have a full head of hear look at more classicly masculine styles, Chris Evans as Cap is a good example. If you're receding like Henry Cavill, look at his Clark Kent. Very messy and wavy while downplaying the receding hairline. Medium length hair is back in for guys.
But if you want more of the focus to be on your face, then a crew cut or a 1 on sides with a 4 on top can be pretty stylish like a couple of the pics in this thread.

Go ask your doc for the 5mg pill prescription and get it filled at target. Cutting the larger pill up into smaller pieces saves you trucks full of money. I spend $40 a YEAR on these pills for the peace of mind of knowing that my hairline is solid as rock.
You could also look at its sister medication dutasteride instead as some say its more effective.. but potato, potato.
