I find it amazing how it is the exact opposite. I once did an experiment where I worked out how much salad I'd need to eat to match a burger king meal. It filled a large glass bowl (no meat or sauce) and it took me about an hour to eat the whole thing and I couldn't eat for the rest of the day or the next.

Youre confusing variety. You can get more variety, and spices are the most costly investment, but after that you can eat really well for MUCH cheaper than eating out. Theres literally no logic to what youre saying.
