What are you reading for brain gains this week /fit/? And what are some good brain foods?
>>
>>36580195
Currently reading the purposeful primitive by marty Gallagher, any recommendations OP? My current book is really interesting in terms of conceptual stuff but the actual weightlifting and diet advice is lacking
>>
>>36580216
Don't ask for recommendations on /fit/.

You'll mostly get pop shit, and self-help shit.

Probably get recommended 1984.

>>36580195
Reading for "brain-gains" is a plebeian idea.

Social, debate, negotiation, leadership, dating and decision-making brain gainz. Incredible book.

its only fault is dragging with numbers and studies occasionally.
>>
>>36580230
Fuuck i really want to look into more /fit/ related books. I've read all of rippetoes shit and am almost done with purposeful primitive. I'm reading better than steroids next but i don't know where to go from there

Meditations by Marcus Aurelius, its $1 on Amazon (Dover Thrift Edition).
It's one of the best books ever written in my opinion, a very quick read, I think every man should read this book.
He covers many topics and its great for motivation, it really opens your eyes to your own mortality but in a way that you are comfortable with life and death and spending your days wisely.
Its considered stoic philosophy so be forewarned it may clash with some other schools of thought you may have read about.
Stoicism really resonates with me though, highly recommend.
>>
>>36580432
I loved Meditations.

Seneca - letters from a stoic would be your next step if you want a hefty dose of stoicism.

Seneca was commanded to commit suicide, and did.
>>
just started dune and it's a lot longer than I thought it was

My other notable current read (along with the bible, a guilty pleasure book, and a book for school).
I'm currently on Volume 3, Caesar & Christ.
I like the completeness of this series, but its getting a little outdated. Would be nice if someone published an updated edition, although that would be quite the project.
>>
William Catton - Overshoot
Marcus Aurelius - Meditations
I read both of these every few years, just to remind myself what its all about.

Currently reading this, really enjoying it.
The focus of the book is the way that inspirational historical figures used trials and challenging difficult circumstances to improve themselves. It's a really empowering attitude to have when you view something shitty as an opportunity to cultivate skills or a stronger mindset.
>>
>>36580859
Why the fuck would you read all this shit.

Bill Bryson is godtier OP. Go read his book "1927" too. Straight 9/10.

Currently reading Lies my teacher told me by James Loewen
>>
>>36580432
I read it earlier this year, and I found a little tedious to be honest. It was good, but pretty repetitive, definitely not something I'd sit down and read huge chunks of at a time.

I fail to see the problem.

It is a good book so far.
>>
>>36581521
>I fail to see the problem.
It's a casual read. Much of what's written there (at least about Godel) are very watered down and not in the least rigorous. You're just going to embarrass yourself if you try to make arguments based on it.
