Thats something a tracksuit salesman would say. i mean if you warm up and ease into things you wont have that problem. If its your first day by all means push your self but dont be sad if the weights you put up arent huge, find your comfort zone and as the days and weeks go by just gradually build up

Long pants and shirts does help keep you muscles and joints "warm" which is helpful, but minimally so, and it's completely unnecessary for a beginner.
