If caffeine only tricks your brain into thinking it's not tired, why does it work as a pre workout?

Pre workouts contains caffein. The thing that differentiate straight caffein and most pre's, are BCAA's.

"tricks" isn't really the word. More like prevents you from feeling tired

Caffeine has a stimulating effect on your CNS, it's not like the only thing caffeine does is blocking receptors in your brain so you don't feel tired. There has been alot of studies on the positive effects on caffeine during both cardio and wheight lifting and yes it helps.

Caffeine also increases epinephrine response and helps spare glucose during exercise to a slight degree. It sets the brain into a fight or flight response which can heighten perception, coordination, etc.
