We always just write Calories because kcal doesn't make any sense grammatically, but we always say "Kilocalories" when we say it out loud. It's like writing lbs but saying "Pounds" outloud.

Why is it a pyramid then. There is no day that's the same length as a month but they share a side on the pyramid which implies there is a day that's the same as a month and a month that's the length of a year. Hard answer: it's because we don't care about you. We're food-independent and self-sufficient in every resource except labor and non-renewable energy. We can do whatever we want because if you all died we'd be fine, you only exist to assemble our exports and then buy them afterward.
Y'all piss and whinge about the metrics we use, but we honestly, sincerely feel no pressure to change because you have so little presence in our lives that we don't even encounter your metrics. The only time I've had to convert from metric to imperial in 2016 thus far has been while buying clothes from Chinese ebay sellers for a quarter the price.
Keep foxposting all you want; posts like this are probably the biggest rise you'll get from us, and this is just me trying to give you an earnest explanation. If you can offer us anything we don't already have, maybe we'll have an incentive to use your metrics, but as it stands we really have no reason to care.
Feel free to internalize this as big dumb idiot Americans off in their own little world, it'll probably be easier to swallow that way and doesn't affect us at all, so I guess that's the course of action with the most short-term moral utility.
