it took me less than 3 months on SS. maybe less than 2 months. a 2 pl8 squat seems heavy when you just set foot in the gym, but it's incredibly easy to reach. 3pl8 is the first real milestone, but even that is relatively easy to reach. or if not easy, at least uncomplicated.

The routine I used was something I wrote to help me with cycling, it's an upper/lower split four days a week, with cardio on the rest days.
Honestly I can't believe I never introduced lifting to my training regiment. I go so faster now and my climbing is 1000% better
10/10 recommend lifting for resistance cardio sports
