Audio is for queers. That being said I recommend the Ghaunts Ghosts novels, the Ciaphas Cain series, The Eisenhorn Trilogy and the Ravenor books. Avoid the pre Heresy/during heresy books until you are more familiar with the universe and concepts as a whole.
I personally recommend starting with the Cain and Eisenhorn books, as both are quality reads. Cain is humorous in a fictional universe where humor doesn't exist and Eisenhorn is just a fantastic read.
