Just ate my 500 kcal surplus for the day marking the first day of my bulk, right after ending my 8 month long cut that introduced me to fitness and lost me 50 pounds.

I'm going to lift on a surplus for the first time.

Did you guys reverse diet out of cutting? My TDEE at the start of my cut was 2450 calories, and I've been cutting at 1550 calories (900 cal deficit). TDEE probably decreased down to 2300/2350 and I'm now finishing up my cut.

What do?

Dear god, you're just being retarded now, drop the "actually you're wrong" act without even trying to give sources on your "you dont need to gain weight to gain weight" retarded "argument". Seriously. Also before you go all "B-but you're not giving ME sources that confirm you need to gain weight to gain weight!" thats because the burden is on you for going agains't common sense and countless free studies that can easily be acessed by a simple google search.

Also, if you're one of those "100-200 cals above your maitenance!" know that any calories above your maitenance is considered a surplus AKA bulk.

>your source is scoobie

So he is credible because he has muscle right? That clearly is enough to counter every scientific study done in the matter, LOL! Thanks for making me laugh.
Continue on to your magical land of gainz.
>>
>>36410028
>>36410322
tha scooby guy wasnt me.
Why do you believe that fat will magically turn into muscle?
btw I'm eating at 3k of healthy food, not because I wanna bulk but because I have a fast metabolysm and like to eat
I'm actually interested in those studies, if you have some metastudies even better. also, the burden of proof is on you, since you are the one going against national health guidelines and common sense
>>
>>36410598
When did I ever state that fat turns into muscle?
>>
>>36410844
dont waste my time, you said you need to eat at a considerable surplus in order to gain muscle
>>
>>36410857
>dont waste my time
>i have a fast metabolysm

>the burden of proof is on me

No. Fuck off and stop being a retard, holy crap. Since you're so busy and your time seems to be so precious i'd advise you to get off this anime image board, i'm sure you got better things to do.
>>
>>36411388
aaaaand you gave no source of your claims and dodget the discussion with personal attacks. well played
>>
>>36411447
That wasn't the person you were talking with I am. You need to eat at a considerable surplus with plenty of carbs, protein and fat. That way you'll restore your muscles after you tear them down. The bigger surplus, the more fat.
>>
>>36411493
I'm ok with a not so big surplus, like 500cal. I wanted him to explain to me the reason why I should "bulk". But you dont necessarily need a calories surplus to build muscle, that's my point
>>
>>36411580
What would be the alternative to you?
>>
>>36411791
eating under less of your tdee but still getting your macros and upping the proteins. You can lose fat and build muscle, yes you need the nutrients of course, but you dont need a surplus

That only works if you're DYEL.

Have you ever seen a muscular dude that didn't weigh a ton? No they don't exist. And where do you think the extra pounds come from, the sky?
>>
>>36409194
because you started fat and need to cut down. Or you're on gear and actually have a reason to bulk hard.
>>
So what's the ideal amount of surplus? 500?

>>36411808
That's true, you gain muscle mass the same way those fatties can only eat 500 calories a day and still gain 4 pounds a week. There's a lot of extra-dimensional mass in limbo that people can call up through the power of genetics or lifting - no eating required
>>
>>36411926
+1
>>36411834
from the food you eat.
I'm talking about normal people, of course auswitzes need to get some mass on just to get some initial strenght.
For instance, I was a skelly and decided I wanted to gain some weight just with diet because I didnt like my body, but now I'm 80kg and came back to the gym but I didnt just start bulking like a madman in order to then have to cut, I just eat at maintenance or more, depends how I feel about it, make sure to eat my proteins, and work hard in the gym. When summer comes I'll have to cut that 1 kilo of fat so that I am a bit leaner in the abs and pecs, not 5 or more kilos
my whole thing is hat I dont get the guys that bulk up every 6 months and then cut just to gain muscle
>>
>>36412023
>eat at maintenance
>or more

That's literally a bulk.
>>
>>36412064
yeah tell me that what people on here say is a bulk is actually what I said, come on man
>>
>>36412081
>moving the goalpost

aaand we're done here.
>>
>>36412095
what...I literally said some posts ago that I eat at slightly above maintenance and my pet peeve is with people that promote huge "bulking".
what are you trying to accomplish here man?
>>
>>36412116
What's the problem with conventional bulking? If you eat at a slight maintenance it'd take ages to actually achieve something.
>>
>>36412125
why, why would gaining fat speed the process of muscle growth?
>>
Good cheap bulking foods? getting sick of peanut butter.
>>
>>36412139
It doesn't, more calories do. Excess fat is a side effect.
>>
>>36412173
why do they?
>>
>>36412197
I'm not a biologist so I don't know the details. Calories consist of carbs, protons and fat. More protons = better restoration of muscles, more carbs = more glycogen storage = more energy in muscles. Fat does some shit too, can't remember.
>>
>>36412220

Fuck off you only need 200 calorie excess for muscle growth, the surplus doesn't decide strength or mass gain.

Fuck this board and dyels giving advice.
>>
>>36412244
>WAAH YOU'RE WRONG YOU'RE WRONG

This isn't from /fit/ you fucking idiot, this is the general consensus in the weightlifting industry.
>>
>>36412220
>I'm not a biologist
dont worry, you're in good company, all this board is full of people that dont know shit but regurgitate what they read here like it is gospel
>>
>>36412244
http://www.fitforcombatsystem.com/math-and-science-how-weightlifting-burns-fat/
TL;DR: Takes about 3000-3600 cals to build 1 lb of muscle.
But like StuWard said, there's so much going on that you want to overshoot. Assuming you can put on 30 lbs of muscle in your first year of training, at 3600 cals per lb, that comes out to 300 cals per day extra. Going for 500 helps because your body is never going to put 100% of it to a single function. It won't add all muscle and no fat.
>>
>>36412269
500 is not much though, I mean to this board's standards of "bulking", right?
>>
>>36412269
there's just a lot of misinformation and doubt on the subject.
I myself will keep eating at 2700-3k because I like it (I should make sure I hit my proteins though, I dont eat many) until I decide I want to trim a bit of fat. and that might be sooner than later, I havent decided yet
>>
>>36412322
300-500 is what every normal individual on this board suggests for bulking you goof
>>
>>36412456
I saw some meal plans and I got scared, believe me. many people dont...unless they were trolling, which may very well be a possibility
>>
>>36412476
You realise some people require insane amount's of calories for what they do, for instance swimmers can eat 10k cals in a day. Those people are probably very big and/or roid
>>
>>36412585
those people are and do, sure. but I'm talking about weightlifters, which is the vast majority here.
