However, there is nothing like a farm dog. I love the attention and the way they follow you when you do chores and ride in the truck bed. If you live a rural life, dogs are better.

The point was it's high maintenance. I can't bring a dog to 99% of places I go to, so those two extra trips out will be on top of everything else. If the world was dog friendly or I lived innawoods then it would be easier.

we really don't take her out too much in case something happens (she's a pit bull rottweiler mix so god help us if she ever bites anything) She seems to have a weird hate for small dogs.

we actually got her as a companion for our Mastiff puppy. At first they just sort of tolerated each other, but now they get along great.
But, at the same time all dogs are different and it really depends entirely on the dog and what they've been through. Some dogs have been beaten half to death and therefore do not get along well with people or dogs, some dogs are perfectly good, socialized dogs that people just couldn't take care of anymore, so they got dumped at a shelter.
If you have a dog, DEFINITELY call the shelter and ask if you can bring your dog in to see if it gets along with the dog you're wanting to adopt. It will save you trouble and worry in the long run.

I love dogs but they are a bigger thread to people than any cat can be. Travel to any 3.world country and see packs of stray dogs terrorizing people. I once beat a dog with a stick to get it off me, and would probably do it again. If it growls at me I will defend myself, simple as that.

I still have no idea how people can rationalize getting a pet in a cage or terrarium.
Coming from a family with a dog raising mother, I have decided to never get a pet unless I get married with children and someone else in the house wants one.
I find them to be too much of a hassle as you have to clean up so much more. Shed hairs, drug in dirt and occasional puke, piss and shit.
Then after about 15 years you have to euthanize the poor aging bastards and you're left with the worst fucking feels. I've had to do it twice now as my mother couldn't bring herself to do it and I still tear up thinking about those times. I just get too attached to pets, so this is the biggest reason why I don't want them any more. My current favorite dog of mom's is approaching her expiration date and I get the feeling I will have to put her down too.

most cats are indifferent and hardly social but the ones that actually enjoy socialising with people are like the perfect pet. low maintenence, quite and freindly.
