Anybody ever nearly get wrekt while lifting or saw it happen to someone else? This just happened to me:

>Bench intensity day
>310lbs, attempting triple
>ask kid to spot me
>tell him I'll unrack it myself
>don't like liftoff because I lose upper back tightness sometimes
>assume position and begin lifting it out
>wrists buckle slightly and bar immediately slams back onto the hooks
>realize that could have been on my face
>tell kid I need a moment before attempting again

I ended up getting the triple but my heart was in my throat the whole time. This is why I shake my head seeing ppl thumbless Bench. Share stories pls.

Now, being a weak pussy at the time, I started training early in the morning as opposed to late at night to avoid them... six months later I had becmoe a lot bigger, but more than that I'd spent a few months training in boxing and Muay Thai. I realised I shouldn't be afraid of some wannabe gangsters, so I started going late again.

Yea the spotter usually either does too much or too little while assisting the liftoff so I just got accustomed to doing it myself. I have new respect for the weight now, that's for sure.

I'm a noob lifter, but was hitting a new PR for 5x5 on bench.

Second set, last rep i was about an inch away from re-racking it. I was so fucking close, but i just couldn't make it.

Bar came crashing on my face, managed to push most of the weight off to one side, but the rest still hit my face. Was about half an inch away from losing all my teeth.

Scared the shit out of me. Hit the 5x5 my next session tho. Nose still hurts like a bitch.

Last year visited my friends gym so I wasn't used to the bar height on the squat rack. Loaded up 3pl8 maxing out for reps and I lost balance coming back up. Fell backward a lil and caught myself on my back foot and muscled it back up onto the rack.

Fucked up something in my neck or back because I woke up later with a stiff neck that later became numbness in my shoulder and side of neck. Scared me and fucked me up for a while and sorta turned me off to lifting heavy. I only ever fuck with 225-275 on squat now because I don't feel that original drive to lift heavy and linearly progress every week like I used to. Luckily the numbness (pinched nerve) went away after seeing a back doctor in Chinatown who only took payment in 40 cash LOL

My gym has a similar problem except we only have a power cage, and it has these enormous fucking struts meant to hold safety bars, but really they just get in the fucking way. You seriously have to be squatting in the perfect spot to not hit the rack.
Every now and then I won't be paying attention and I'll clip one of them and nearly die. It seriously has to be one of the worst gyms in the country.

A while ago I lost my footing under a smith machine, with the way the bar is attached it made me fall backwards like I was doing limbo. I was able to reset the bar before I would have hit the floor but it was pretty close.

I've read articles online about these things fucking up people's spines so now if I have to use one I always check to make sure the safety locks are at a decent height.

2. Clear the area around him so he doesnt slam into anything
3. Call the ambulance
4. Just let him seize, keep people and objects away from him. DO NOT PUT YOUR FINGERS IN HIS MOUTH
5. After the seizure passes, he'll be disoriented. Let him come to on his own, give him some water if he does
6. Let the ambulance deal with it when they get there

Took three weeks to get better, stopped lifting entirely for that time and gradually eased back with bodyweight exercises. Very little bruising. Wasn't able to do a pull-up for 10 days. Sneezing during the first 12 days was like getting hit in the chest with a plugged-in toaster oven.

Worst part was not being able to lie flat on my back for the first three or four days, had to sleep on an incline. Shit like this really makes you appreciate little things like being able to roll onto your side without daggers of pain.

Was able to get back to my old lifts pretty quickly. Last time I had to take more than a week off was 8 days of stomach flu but even then that wasn't as bad as I thought to get back on the horse. When in doubt, don't start lifting again until you're absolutely 100% pain free.
