Yeah I did stuff like that to go from 270->182, but I put a lot more emphasis on cardio and calories until I got to a point where I was around 200 then started doing more serious weights and such. For me focusing on cardio was just one of the best/easiest ways to build up my stamina as well as ease me into better shape.
