Anybody who can squat with their bodyweight on the bar is strong enough to pistol squat. All it takes is a bit of balance and flexibility. People claiming that they are an immense demonstration of strength are full of shit.

None of it matters except barbell lifts and anything that contributes to actual athleticism.

No.

If you weigh 200 and squat 200 on a bar, total weighted moved is 400 pounds. Divide that by 2, and it's equivalent to 1 leg moving 200 pounds - or your bodyweight.

For double bodyweight squats, you'd need to squat 400 at a weight of 200, for a total weight moved of 600 lbs by your legs. Divide this in half and that's 300 per leg, or 1 pistol squat at a weight of 200 pounds while holding a 100 lb weight.

I can do 12, but my form is terrible. Working on getting my hammies stretched so I can do them with perfect technique, until then I'm wary of increasing reps or weight for fear of my knees.

Yea, before I even hit gym I did them for like 5 sets of 10 superseting each side. Legs only started to grow to next level when I got stronger on barbell squats.

I never noticed any pain in my knees while doing them. I used to even do them with my heel coming off the groubd amd my knees were fine. Now i can do them with my heel down so knees are even better.
