I've been thinking to myself- who really fits the bill for the Fittest Man on Earth?
Is it a Strongman competitor, a top ranked gymnast, a triathlete, Rich Froning or even Lu Xiaojun?
Surely there must be a man far, far more able bodied than even the greatest known athletes- a man capable of feats beyond the imagination

Its probably a navy seal or other special ops person, or a pro fighter. Mental toughness adds an edge to physical coditioning

There must be at least one guy out there who can both compete in strong man & do an iron man, right?
Is there any real reason someone couldn't be competent in both strength sports & endurance sports?

You could compete in both, but you couldn't be more than regionally competitive in both simultaneously
The reason is that strongman athletes need much more mass, fat and muscle, than endurance athletes

You can't rank someone as the fittest man on earth imo.
Top ranked gymnasts are by far the strongest in the world pound for pound and generally have fantastic endurance
Strongmen generally have poor endurance but have the most raw strength
Rich Froning is more of a jack of all trades. He's pretty good at a lot of things to do well in crossfit comps, but not specialized in one specific area.
Lu probably has fantastic pound for pound muscular strength compared to gymnasts. But gymnasts ligaments and tendons will always be stronger, always.
I would probably say the fittest athletes on earth are ultramarathoners or decathletes. So the fittest man on earth is probably in the elite level of either of those.
