Suppose doing both in my routine is not something viable, which one is better: Pendlay Rows or Power Cleans? What are their pros and cons?
>>35441361
They're different exercises which do different things

Within the Starting Strength program, many people substitute Pendlay Rows for the Power Cleans.,
>>35441361
Do both, and do some rear delt flies, or something else specifically for your rear delts too.
And do your guns too
And your abs
And do rdl's too

This is all fine for an intermediate lifter but novice lifters don't need such variation.
The novice stage of lifting is so short, don't fuck it up.

And they are wrong to do so
>>35443839
The problem with focusing on so few exercises such as in starting strength is that when you finish, or rather, when your linear gains finish, you have only squatted, benched, DL, and ohp, and power cleans at the end plus a short time doing chin ups.
Many people end up with weak hamstrings and core, and a weak back, and completely untrained rear delts while your anterior delts have grown.
Hugely imbalanced, just asking for problems.
Should do exercises to reduce these issues.

Not true at all, the lowbar squat does strengthen the hamstrings, the core is worked through squats, bench, press and deadlifts verynwell and all that is needed for a novice lifter. The structure of the program doesn't really allow for much abdominal accessories because your abs need to be %100 recovered in order to properly and safely preform Heacy squats and deadlifts 4-5x a week.
A novice lifter does not need such variation, intermediate lifters do as they experiment in what they wish to specialise in, then as you become an advanced lifted you begin to do fewer lifts that you know work the majority of your body and have the best carry over to your sport.

I should mention I'm talking about almost rank novice lifters, not transitioning intermediate lifters.

That's like asking "which is better, bench or deadlift?". They fill entirely different niches in training.

I agree for absolute first day lifters, they should just do ss like rip intended.
