So if you can gain 1lb a muscle a month
What would happen if you only trianed upper body ?
Or is the 1lb number based off of working your whole body

Conditions have to be just perfect. That is working out every muscle group.
Don't be a faggot and only work out upper body. Nothing looks more stupid than having twigs for legs and big upper body.

You can google how much muscle your body can produce. After a year it declines quite a bit.

Its based off working the whole body (its also just a rough estimate based on a whole lot of ballpark ideas that may or may not be applicable).

Muscular recovery is about the individual muscles - if you go from doing ten sets of squats and 10 sets of bench to just doing twenty sets of bench, your chest isn't going to recover at the same rate.

There is also a myriad of factors
Just eat good and fallow a good routine and push your self dont go to the gym and half ass it and assuming u do not have shit genetivs u will be fine
