My personal trainer buddy just gave me a routine that has zero compound exercises. He told me since I had been doing twelve weeks of them, I should change up my routine for four to eight weeks and then go back to compounds

Is he a scrub, or is he really on to something?

The only variation regarding compound movements that you should employ, are variations to the specific approaches to them. Highbar Squat, Lowbar Squat, Front Squat, Hacksquat, Snatch Grip Deadlift, Deficit Deadlift, Trap-Bar Deadlift and so on...

You can work your core, back and legs with isolation exercises. Also OPs trainerbuddy said to just do isolation for a few weeks and then go back to compounds. Imo that might work if he's stalling.

OP here. He claims it will be good for toning and slow bulking. I suspected it was garbage when I saw the lazy of any squats, bench, etc.
