Does anyone here do martial arts?
I am considering starting with BJJ for self-defence purposes, is it any fun and useful?
U should do it it's lots of fun and the people are really great
I do takewondo. Good cardio, probs meh for self defense. Fun sport if you are interested in competing at all though.
I did judo last summer and am looking to start again next semester. Also very fun. Basically all sparring/sport based, so maybe better for self defense but lots of people are in it to compete, not to really learn to fight irl. BJJ might be different because it has more overlap with MMA stuff to my understanding.

Last time I looked wrestlers always clean housed in MMA, whether Greco or Freestyle they all have a background in wrestling.
i box 3 times a week along with going to the gym, i try to combine the 2 for maximum power lol i weigh 77kg and 6'1 tall just chillin don't want no gains

If you will be doing it just for self defense I reccomend against it. It will be more efficient and less dangerous if you choose a striking art. Muay thai/boxing/etc...

Boxing is fun, it's a good way to learn proper strikes and rudimentary defense. Good cardio too. Having ground game is awesome but don't default to these sorts of things for a real self defense situation. Go to /k/ for the actual application of self defense.
Since most fights are going to be against more than one opponent, is there a martial arts that's focused on fighting or defusing a situation against more than one opponent?
I guess BJJ and boxing is cool, but if you're up against 3 people grappling one of them isn't going to do much.

I'd say that rolling on asphalt or cement while there's no rules and potentially multiple aggressors it's not a smart move. Also a lot of dangerous strike (bashing the head on the ground, striking to the neck, biting, etc... )are banned from ufc and generally in BJJ there's no striking allowed. It works well in the ring and it is an awesome sport. For self defense I suggest a striking art first then if you have time something with grappling.

If you want self defence, you need a martial art. BJJ and Judo are martial sports, designed for competition. If you're lucky enough to find a good Jujitsu club nearby you've hit the jackpot. Judo and BJJ don't teach strikes because they're against competition rules. Japanese Jujitsu teaches strikes, locks, throws, groundwork and defence against weapons. I also did TKD for 8 years, another martial sport, good for competitions but not incredibly practical in a real life situation.

I got my Jujitsu blackbelt a couple months ago after six years training.
Martial arts are fun, good workout and a good social thing.
You just need to make sure wherever you train has some form of sparring.
