Molecules of water don't provide us with energy. to simplify things, calories are a measure of energy. our bodies can use carbs, proteins, fats to create energy.

unfortunately, Our bodies don't break apart water molecules to create energy so we don't count water as providing us energy.

easiest way i can think of explaining it
>>
Science/Medfag reporting in
Because it cannot be converted into atp nor glycogen and it cannot be stored as adipose tissue or free amino acids in the body it cannot be used as energy, energy = calories. It's just hydrogen and oxygen, but it's used in chemical processes related to creating energy.
>>
>>35234072

>no calories

bro it has loads of calories, ur body just hasn't evolved to make use of them
>>
1 calorie is the amount of energy needed to raise the temperature of a gram of water by 1 degree Celcius.

think about that and the answer is obvious

Not really since that just defines the amount of energy in definite terms. But a calorie is still just a unit of energy so water itself isn't barred from having calories by that definition
>>
>>35234072
Because it can't be oxydated any more
>>
because the definition of a calorie is a unit of energy required to raise the temperature of a cup of water 1 degree centigrade but then youre saying how much water raises one cup of water one degree centigrade. i bet OP is an american
>>
>>35234072
Because calories are measurements of energy. In order for the energy to be released, the substanse needs to achieve a more stable state of matter.

For water, putting it into a more stable state so that energy would be released is incredibly hard.

Other carbonates can be broken down easily and energy releases easily, it's hard to break H2O into H and 2O
>>
>>35234072
water above bodytemperature Containern calories. water below body temperature burns calories. -1kcal for every Liter and °C below body temperature
>>
Biologist here:

Water contains nothing the body can use as energy. C6H12O6 -> 6CO2 + 6H2O (glucose (sugar) -> water + carbon dioxide). Water is a product of respiration (energy production), not a prerequisite like the glucose that is required for it.

Listen up faggots I figured it out.

How do they measure calories? They burn the shit up and see how much does it take to heat up water by 1 degree.

Now when the science guy decided to burn water, it literally didn't fucking work. The fire didn't fucking work. So no water got heated by 1 degree. That means that water has no calories.
>>
>>35234582
It's not just hard, but it's an endotherm reaction. You need to invest energy to split up the H2O molecule. That's why the body doesn't break it down, it would cost us energy.

A bunsen burner liberates energy the opposite way, by putting H and O together.
>>
>>35234767
Calorie measurements are done by bomb calorimetry, which involves putting what you want to measure in a bomb calorimeter, sealing it, and burning it up. The amount of energy expelled is your calorie count.

This is why high-fiber foods are generally unreliable as far as calorie counts on nutrition labels, because the fibers burned during calorimetry but our body can't 'burn' them the same way.

Water has no calories because when it's heated, it doesn't change chemical structure - it just evaporates, and while there's a small energy change associated with evaporation, water doesn't usually evaporate in our bodies since body temperature is well below the boiling point of water

Best answer.

Basically water has calories, we can't use them for energy because we aren't walking fusion reactors.
Essentially we can get energy from carbs, fats, protein and alcohol.

water could be split to water and hydrogen
both contain energy both can burn at extremely high temps and speeds
but our body cannot do this process

its because water is a noble liquid and doesnt bond with the energy cells in your body. since calories are just energy cells, water doesnt stick to them and as such it wont amass calories before you consume it.

however, when you drink water it reacts with the hydrochloric acid (which also has hydrogen in it) changing the polarity of the molecule which allows for calories to now bond with it, since it went from a +1 to -1 charge. that is why drinking water burns calories
>>
>>35234072
because it cools the calories

I was trying to explain in layman's terms. Really no reason to explain things to people that will go over their heads or they wont be able to appreciate. The most important part of teaching is making sure they can understand.
