Thats fine because you'll use those fast carbs as energy during the lifting. I'm not sure on the exact numbers but you should get between 30-40 grams of fast carbs before and after lifting. You also get it after to spike your insulin and to get out of catabolic state.

Well first of all, fruits don't fall into that category as they don't cause much insulin secretion. For carbs to be stored as fat though, they have to be converted from carbohydrate into lipid, which is an inefficient and wasteful process, no matter how much insulin is released. Now, if you include a considerable amount of fat in the meal, that fat, already in lipid form, is very easily stored as body fat. Not really the carbs' fault, is it?

Simple carbs, "fast carbs" ARE digested quickly but they do not automatically go to fat. They are stored as glycogen in the liver and stored for use later. IF your glycogen stores are maxed out then you will turn it into adipose tissue to keep you blood serum from becoming hyperglycemic.

Guess how much glucose it takes to max out your liver's glycogen stores?

I eat both. Wheat berries, especially the longer-shaped khorasan kind, have a nice chewiness and can be made like rice, and then bread is a soft, tasty loaf of toasted grain goodness.
