Airforce has the highest mental requirements, but lowest physical requirements-- ultimately AF and Navy have the best overall benefits, pay, and career advancement opportunities. It's all about what's best suited for you.

Ignore all the faggots who whine about the Airforce's low physical requirements-- they probably didn't pass the ASVAB high enough to make the cut, and the ASVAB isn't even that hard to score a perfect on.

You're not even in the corps yourself?

Marine 0-1 reporting in.

Our lives suck man. I regret not going another branch everyday but we are undoubtedly, the coolest and sexiest.

It comes at the price of it being a bitch for career advancement and shittier everything.

It seems like everybody just becomes an 0-4 in the other branches but they are legit celebrities in the Marines.

I'm ex-Air Force.

If you've got the balls for it, I'd go Marines. Me, I don't have that hi-test attitude. I respect Marines though and so does every other male worth having the respect of.

If you're not looking for a rite of manhood to pass and are wondering which branch to go into, I can definitely recommend the Air Force. The quarters, facilities and benefits are all superior to the other branches excepting maybe the Navy and then it's a tie. The tie-breaker is the Air Force doesn't maroon you on a ship for half a year at a time.

If you're looking to slay poon, Marines in my experience don't actually fare that well overseas. I was stationed in Japan on an Army base and Marines would get bussed in on the weekends for entertainment from what must have been some hellhole up in the mountains, because this Army base sucked compared to the neighboring Navy and Air Force bases. Anyhoo, the locals all avoided Marines because they reeked of desperation. The Marines also had a terrible rep because some black grunts raped children in Okinawa. The other branches had neither of these deficiencies.

well, when it comes to joining the military, heh... my point goes back to superior mindset. I'm actually a trained... which means I think in terms of violence of action when it comes to physical conflict resolution. When engaging an enemy you utilized unrestrained violence, speed and aggression to overpower them, dominate the conflict and completely destroy your opponent to ensure victory. You use any and every means at your disposal to ensure dominance, no ha,lf measures nothing held in reserve. If you are not trained you absolutely do not want to put yourself into a conflict against someone with that mindset. They will survive, you will not.

Heh, good luck kid.

TBS is 6 months long and its more like really shitty college to kill people. We are all officers by then and technically arent babies anymore. We dont get anything at OCS though which blows major cock.

TBS isnt our boot. OCS is our boot which is disguised as an interview.

did you guys in military already know military jargon and shit before you joined? and how the system worked? that shit seems pretty intimidating to people who dont know. do people who know jack shit about the military before going in, generally pass and do well in their jobs? does boot camp teach you all that stuff about ranks, and stuff?

Didn't know ranks or history or ribbons or nothing and I didn't give a fuck either. Scored a 97 on the Asvab and picked it all up as I went along. The military's easy peazy dude
>>
>>35220596
thanks, ive been thinking about it but not sure what branch, because im not really sure if i want to stay in IT or do something more physical. is the first step choosing a branch, or a job MOS?
>>
>>35220625
That's really a pretty open Question and depends entirely on you man. For example if you really want X Mos field and the Marines and army don't have it but the airforce and navy do than that narrows it down for you to those 2 branches. Now on the flip side say for some odd reason you just really really really wanna be a marine. Then of course your Mos options are going to be limited to the small selection of marine mos. And then you have to test out to see what you qualify for and that may or may not narrow it down even further and lastly you have to see what's available at that given time. Research some mos that your interested in and see who's offering them. If it's gonna be techy your best bet is airforce or navy. Definitely not Marines though they're really just all about the whole Gung ho lifestyle even if you are a tech
>>
>>35220685
thanks. i have college degree and job currently, i mostly want to join before i get too old to serve. i wouldnt mind leaving tech field, i should just talk to a recruiter. im just nervous because i dont know anything about military and recruiters obviously are trying to sell you on their branch of military

U could go officer with your degree man there's literally no reason not to. You'll be making like triple the pay and have to put with half the bullshit. Don't let anyone convince you otherwise literally 100 percent of my friends with degrees who went enlisted because they had something to prove or had a chip on their shoulders or whatever instantly regret it. GO OFFICER dude trust me you're quality of life, job selection, pay, and everything else will be exponentially better than going enlisted route

Just don't be a whiny boot bitch like that other guy up there. Know your role and shut your mouth while pocketing ridiculous amounts of money for doing nothing your first few years until you have some experience or a deployment. Let your staff and NCOs run the show they know what they're doing

I literally went to boot camp while knowing nothing. I had never even marched. They gave me a book and told me to study it when I first signed my papers with the recruiter but I was a shithead then and never looked at it. As far as the navy is concerned if you aren't retarded you get plenty of time in boot camp to learn that shit.

ok so I just started college and will likely get a degree in economics or something. I am planning on training hard for the next 4 years to get in peak physical condition. What would be the best military career for me assuming I have a degree and a high asvab and a perfect PFT score. I am an excellent swimmer also. I don't really have much regard for my life so I was thinking EOD might be cool

i'm pretty good, but idk if i'd be allowed to do that stuff, or have to follow some weird regulations
>>
>>35221729
>>35221678 <--me

Have you looked in to ROTC? Pretty good path to becoming an officer and the pay is decent. You won't have to fuck around with EOD shit unless that's really what you want to do.

If you factor in high asvab scores, a degree, all that shit, look in to the position I'm in; it's enlisted and not officer, but the civilian prospects are fucking great.

I decided to go 35Q with the Army rather than go to college, and in the process I became more physically active, more disciplined, earned an (albeit pretty worthless) free associates degree, finished my bachelors by taking a couple classes a semester during my enlisted time, and have a better prospect coming out now than I would have out of school.

>5 years of experience
>Bachelors + Associates (they're separate, the Associate's is unrelated and basically handed to you in training)
>27y/o and I'll be making more than most college grads when they're 40+
>>
>>35220796
>pocketing ridiculous amounts of money for doing nothing
man, are you serious? you think 35k is a ridiculous amount of money?

i know it's a service, but that pay is pretty dang low for someone with a degree who could get about 90k in a civilian job.
>>
>>35221758
Armyfag here, air force and navy are both great for that type of thing if you want to be more mobile and have the potential to be deployed on a ship (in the navy's case.)

If you're looking for something state-side that's essentially an office job for the military (sort of, loose comparison) look at 35Q in the Army. Navy and Air Force definitely have better quality of life and equipment, though. Not sure of the Air Force equivalent for 35Q but navy is CTN MOS.

35Q = Cryptologic Network Warfare Specialist

>>35221801
Can't speak from experience for infantry, EOD, Armor positions or anything like that, my job is pretty comfy anyway, but the Army definitely isn't bad.

It's "worse" than Navy / Air Force but still isn't awful unless you choose some god awful MOS.

>>
>>35222039
As someone outside of a rate/MOS that actually hacks: I have no idea, and I shouldn't. As a civilian I always assumed they ran basic shit like SQL injections and spoofing credentials via pre-programmed applications. The more important thing they learn is how to protect what they do and how they do it, which is hugely enforced.
Example: if you so much as hint that you attempted or intended to hack or access a machine that isn't yours, pretty much any branch is gonna strip your clearance and job from you.
>>
>>35222064
what do they think about outside experience? like you might know some stuff they aren't teaching in their course, can you use it? can you teach others? would it be considered disobeying orders or breaking rank or something? how flexible, and innovative is the service, i guess?

i know the commanders want their units to be highly effective so they can report good news up the chain.

in all honesty i just want to be able to do an exceptional job, but if i'm not being used to my potential, it would be a really dissatisfying experience, to be honest.

There is operating procedure for everything. Obviously hacking or any kinda of offensive crypto is different from running some gigline or firing a weapons system, but you also have to remember that those operating procedures exist for a reason. Shit was probably written by someone who understands the situation a lot more and put in a context that you won't be totally privy to. Most of the time the stuff that you're doing as a lower to mid level enlisted is just cookie cutter work. EVEN crypto and cyber work. The high skill stuff either gets contracted out to civilians or is handled by specialized officers or warrant officers.

I mean, if you're talking fo-real fo-real cyber combat and concepts and you are a fan of what America does, I'd say fuck it. So long as you can handle the culture and shitty day-to-day aspects of it, the resume building and benefits are pretty fucking endless for the tech and cyber field. Feel free to ask more questions.

assuming you score high enough on the required entrance tests, what requirements are there to be a navy pilot/navigator? do you need a certain college degree or will any one do?

Relative to what your average enlisted fag makes right out out of bootcamp. Plus officers rate BAH too. Vs young unmarried pfc smuckatelli making 500 a check after taxes

Canadian soldiers are extremely well trained. We don't have "special forces" per se because with our smaller population we have no logistical need to specialize our soldiers to such a degree. Our infantry are held to at least the same standards as American and British special forces

Basically yes our military is very worth it our deficiencies are not in training but in numbers and in overall spending on ships/jets/tanks/tech ect.

To expand on that.
Most airline companies require a large number of hours to apply and there are no real entry positions to get that experience.

For example to be a helicopter pilot for most companies requires upwards of 2000 hours of flight time. The only way to get those hours (if you're a civvy or already own your own chopper) is to rent a chopper which costs a lot of money. A lot.
