Depends on what I eat. If I eat lots of fruit and mostly protein, I often drink nothing additionally. When I eat something salty or lots of bread, then I can drink up to 3 liters a day. But that's really rare, on average it's not even a liter honestly.

A bit of both. Thirst is a pretty accurate indicator of dehydration, it's more that if you are going to be doing some physical activity you should hydrate prior to actually feeling thirsty.
