I think it depends on how your individual body responds to it.
My body adds pounds of blubber so quickly when I drink frequently, so I have to restrain my natural tendency to be a drunk, so I don't get fat.
Also, think of it this way: in addition to the calories naturally found in various booze, the alcohol itself will slow your metabolism down, making yourself more liable to gain weight...add in drunk eating, and you have a fucking mess on your hands (or gut, more like).

Not only does being drunk make you hungry, but your liver processing alcohol means anything with fat or carbs won't be processed correctly and will go straight to fat storage.
I remember reading an article saying that people get beer bellies from eating while drunk, and not necessarily the drinking calories themselves making them fat. It's the combination of everything.
