The 3 times a week thing works for pretty much everyone. This is something covered by Rippetoe. Also for an absolute beginner you won't see that much difference if any between lifting 3 times a week or 4 or more times most likely.

Beyond beginner you should probably be lifting more than 3 times a week.

I started lifting 3 days a week while doing jiu jitsu 6 days a week, doubles on the days where I wasn't lifting. I now lift 4 days a week and do jiu jitsu 7 days a week, still doubles when I'm not lifting. I like blaha but with diet and training he just recommends whatever he is doing at the moment and dismisses everything else

a while back he was lifting 6x a week and explaining why this would be optimal for both strength and size and how well it can be done if you train properly

frequency, workload, and overtraining arent even considered issues in many cultures that do weightlifting and dont get their advice from the internet. they just know more is more and overtraining is pretty much alien to them, and they produce world class weightlifters and train amateurs the same way - even have kids lifting 6-7x per week and doing 4 bodybuilding sessions on top.

its not neccesary to go more than 3-4 times per week, but more is more.

actually squat 3x per week and deadlift 2x per week. benching 4 times. stronger than blaha and natty. if you work your way up over some months its not a problem to recover. and yeah i work a rather physical job too

I'm natty and do a split 6 days a week for 60-90 minutes a pop. when you do a split its fine, though everyone always cries its overworking. only downside is i sleep a shit tonne.

its also pretty common to hear on this board that training more than 3-4 days a week is overdoing it, even two days in a week is "not possible". dunno. i wish it was obligatory to post a progress pic with every post so i could immediately tell whose advice to dismiss.

Is it accepted to drop your fucking weight at the top of a deadlift? I get that you aren't driving as much when you're lowering which might be a waste you can spend on another pull, but i never progress until i can lower my weight instead of dropped it like i just heard the ice cream truck

>>
Yeah 3 days is sorta the mininmum and 4 is really the best. But y
If you increase your training you do need to be careful to get sleep and eat. I went to a four day split on Texas Method from SS and I noticed that sleep became even more important for progress.
>>
Kinbody only trains 3x a week, so does alphadestiny. You can train more, but it requires more food and trickier programming to actually progress and not get burnt out. How fuck can you stall on 3 days a week
>>
Unless you're on gear you can't recover from more than a certain number of near maximal repetitions per muscle group per unit of time.

That means that there is flexibility in training frequency , but there is a limit to repetition X load density

There are many ways to train natty, but you obviously can't hammer chest 3x per week with 60 near maximal reps per session and expect to recover
>>
>>35137250
Yea. I don't think they call it strongwoman. Everyone there is strongfat. I had hoped she'd become a cardio bunny but que sera sera.
>>
I started doing a 5 days/week brosplit(chest, back, legs, shoulders, arms) for about a year, it worked but fullbody works much better for me. Fullbody 3 times a week is 10x better, you should hit every muscle part again after about 48 hours. Blaha is 100% right.

Went from 6'4 392lbs to 198lbs doing full body 3x a week. It's the most optimal for the majority of people with the exception of genetically gifted people who will grow from stimulating a muscle once a week on a brosplit then why not do a split then? Otherwise stick to the bread and butter that had always worked.

If you don't have the time to do a full body 3x a week do what you gotta do just be consistent.

>>
>>35140594
Most people don't do negatives on deadlifts.
>>
>>35138926
It's just Stronglifts with accessories tacked on to impress young people who think excessive volume=gains. He admits you could strip out the isos and get just as much gains. Stick to regular SL or SS then tack on your own isos for lagging muscles.
>>
>>35140594
at heavier weight it should be a guided drop; no holding it back or slamming it down.

in competition basically you just have to keep your hands on the bar.

even if not, greg o'gallagher is, which still invalidates all of blaha's points about natties not being able to maintain 6% bodyfat year round without dysfunctioning hormones (granted greg is closer to 7% at 6.6% from dexa)

but yea, most likely not (could be, though), but blaha is still retarded.

No. Fucking what the hell dammit.

Look at me, there's a big chunk of this board that would call me fedora tipper or something. I'm all about
>muh functional strength
>men don't need visible abs
whatever.

There are still plenty of worthwhile splits for natty lifters, and many people at the intermediate level can use 4 days of weight training depending on sport. Somebody in a barbell sport (weightlifting, powerlifting, physique competition) can easily easily be at the gym six days a week on something that's not really a split, totally natty.

It's really common to see people take something true ("'Hammer every individual muscle to failure with dumbbells and cables, five days a week' is a brosplit meant for roiders") and overextend it into falsehood.
>>
>>35141821
Polygraph tests are bullshit. You might as well have a witch doctor reading your aura with bone totems to determine if you're lying.

>>35140594
Total shit. The people that say you have to lower it super gently are just plain wrong. But just dropping it is a pussy move for anybody doing deadlifts for gains instead of training for a power lifting meet.
>>
>>35141212

in my experience it's the guys who train 3 times a week doing a couple sets of deadlifts, bench, and squat that get literally nowhere.

it's the guys who go 5-6 days a week doing a combination of both that progress the furthest.

Volume is individual and should be adjusted accordingly. What gives most growth? As much volume as possible that you can still recover from. As you train more you can handle more volume. It's not unusual for more elite level lifters to train 6-7 days/week. Intelligent programming is of course an important factor in higher frequency training. A training schedule can be programmed many ways and does not have to be limited to 3-4 days a week.
