So I've been 5'9" and a stable 275 lbs for a few years now. I've been keeping track of my calorie intake and I average around 2000-2200 a day. I don't work out regularly, but I'm not entirely sedentary either, usually hitting 10,000 steps a day according to my phone.

What's /fit/ recommend when your metabolism is in the shitter? I'm panicking a little because my doctor actually recommended gastric bypass surgery and doesn't think exercise would be enough for me to lose weight.

It seems to have been a factor for me. Even when I was working out 4 hours a week for two months for a college course I didn't lose any weight, just felt like shit all of the time.

Nowhere in the sticky does it say 1500 calories. By every metric I've found through the sticky I'm already eating at least several hundred calories under what they think I should be eating.

If you put in your exercise level in the TDEE calculator, it will give you a number that MAKES UP for the exercise. Just eat less. You are not a speshul snowflake. Metabolism varies by a few hundred calories at best, thats a bag of doritos.

TDEE calculator still says just under 2974 even with the little or no exercise setting for me.

This is the thing I find frustrating. I honest to god do not eat all that junky, except for once a week when I game with fa/tg/guys and snacks are abundant. Even then I still end up at or under 3000 calories those days since I seem to naturally compensate by only eating two meals those days. Same goes for when I eat out, I tend to only have a snack for dinner if I splurge and have fast food.

Sorry I misread, thought you meant a 1500 calorie deficit. 1500 sounds like a starvation diet though, I tried something that was around that mark a few years ago and I could barely function after two weeks. I was sleeping 12 hours a night. I did lose a few pounds, but that can't be healthy.

A normal persons calorie intake should be around 2000, 1500 isn't going to make your body believe it's in Auschwitz.

Thats for a typical amerifat who works a cubicle job and doesn't get exercise beyond walking from their car to a location they drove to.

Intensely active men have totally different caloric and macro reqs than the Big brother guidelines.

Obese people have a totally different TDEE as well. They have to eat well above what their TDEE would be at a healthy bodyfat to maintain the excess they have.

Calories in/out has also been shown to be somewhat wrong, often what determines if a person will be overweight is gut flora, studies have even shown that putting miniscule amounts of a fit persons feces in an obese diabetics gut will make them return to a healthy weight. It works the same way with people who can't put on weight.

Extrapolating findings way beyond their limits, what you've said is pretty much unequivocally wrong re: it causes obesity.

I cook most of my food so it should be pretty accurate. My diet has been a little inconsistent lately because of the holidays/end of college quarter, leaning towards more fast food, but that's also easy to track. Here's an example of what I might eat:

Breakfast:
200 2 scrambled eggs
265 cheese grits (1/4 cup dry grits, 1/2 cup milk, 1 slice cheddar)
100 Coffee w/ sugar & half n' half

Lunch
240 Ritz crackers
110 Pepperjack cheese
100 Pear or apple

Snacks
105 Banana
80 Boiled egg

Dinner
550 Bowl of homemade vegi lentil curry stew (estimated based off of calculating the whole pot)
100 1/2 cup greek yogurt

Total 1850

Days like that average out with the days when I splurge to get the 2200 my calories a day. The app I'm using uses more precise calorie values of course, I just rounded off for simplicity there.

I realize I'm not eating terrifically healthy, but I'm not overeating for certain.

Usually have a cup of coffee or tea with sugar/creamer most days, and 2-3 cans of sugary soft drinks a week and 2-3 cans of diet soda a week. Been tracking all of it in the app.

So the calorie calculators you'll get online are a rough estimate of how much you'll burn
They don't take into account medical conditions, lots don't even bother with body fat %

What you need to do, in my opinion, is a bit of trial and error
Let's say you're eating 2,000 calories a day now, and maintaining weight
Start eating 1,900 daily, for a week
After weighing yourself, if there is little to no change, reduce to 1,800
Do this for a week again, weigh again, if you're not getting results, drop another 100 calories

This is really the only sure fire method to figure out how many calories YOUR body needs to lose weight
It might take some time, maybe multiple months, but you're not going anywhere
In a few months time you'll still be alive. I hope

This will eventually get you to a point where you're losing weight
If it does not the literal implication is that you don't need food at all and your grocery bill disappears, and you can repurpose your kitchen


If you are dedicated, this will work
My further advice is
Get plenty of fibre (fiber, UKfag here)
I've heard [citation needed] that lots of Americans are lacking fibre in their diets

Get plenty of fluid down you, mainly, and if possible, solely, water
These two will get your bowels moving, otherwise you're just full of shit

Get a decent amount of fat
You need it for your hormones

Eat lots of protein
Helps to fill you, for one, and even if you're sedentary, eating lots of protein during weight loss will help prevent muscle wastage

Carbs that aren't all sugars are good, if you don't have any, you'll feel bad and worn out

Take a multi-vitamin

cut out pretty much all refined sugar not necessary for a dish, cut out most carbs, and stuff your face with salad and protein. Feel more hungry? Just add more salads. Find out how to make the best salads also, they can be delicious meals or shit depending on how you make them.

Once you've done this, and got a stable exercise schedule, get a lipo to kill the future cravings (otherwise the extra fat cells you've produced will stay for life making you feel hungry until you're as fat as you were). Gastric bypass is for people who can't control themselves at all, but your doctor probably don't want to tell you that you're just a pathetic fat fuck. If you can control yourself, lipo is going to help you a lot more.

Starvation mode is a fucking myth, the sole purpose for your body to store fat is so it can be burned when on a calorific deficit. The idea that asking your body to burn fat stops it from doing so it a HAES meme to justify their gluttony. Don't fall for it.
