So /fit/ it turns out I have Hashimoto's disease, a condition in which my immune system attacks my thyroid causing hypothyroidism.

A few of my symptoms are;
>Fatigue
>Weight gain
>Muscle aches, tenderness and stiffness
>Pain and stiffness in my joints
>Muscle weakness

I barely have it in me to function these days let alone lift. I have a home gym and can't do anything anymore. I try to but after just a few reps I'm ready to give in. I've lost all my strength, my muscle and my confidence.

What should I do /fit/ ?

I don't want to give in and just sit around gaining weight and losing muscle. I've been making a lot of progress with myself lately, working to right myself mentally, setting life goals and over coming my anxiety and depression.

What does your specialist tell you?
Since, you can't do a lot of lifting/exercise just make sure your diet is superb. Not only will you feel better but you can control the way your body looks entirely based on diet. Only problem is its tough in a social setting to say "I can't have these wings or beer, i'm out for tonight."

Best of luck bro

Yes, I was diagnosed only last week after about a month of tests.

>>34992763
I wasn't really told anything by the doctor except to take my medication and come back for more tests in January next year.

as i said, if you've been prescribed pills with synthetic thyroid hormones take them regularly and your symptoms should go away entirely. i was diagnosed as a teen and it hasn't affected my life at all really, you'll be ok
>>
>>34992829
I've been taking them every morning but it's only been like 4 days. I have noticed a slight chance but it's hard to tell if that's from the pill or if it's just a placebo.

How old are you now anon? if you don't mind me asking.

I'm 21 by the way forgot to mention that in my first post.

22, diagnosed at 17 i think? had severe depression, slept 14 hours a day, lost then regained 10kg within 2 months, also lost a lot of hair

within a few weeks of taking pills i was back to normal

So you've been dealing with it for quite a while.

Personally my depression has actually got a lot better these days and I no longer over sleep.
A few months ago I was managing to lose weight and had dropped almost 10kg of fat but when my symptoms began I stopped exercising and my diet sort of went out the window. My scale weight has not changed (still 66kg) but I can tell that I've gained fat and lost muscle. And if I were to lose any of my hair I'd probably freak out, my hair is one of my best features.

My sister got diagnosed with this about five years ago. She's always liked to exercise and eat healthy so it hasn't affected her weight. Though if she takes a break for a week or so from the gym she does get noticeably chubby. I've worked out with her, her routine is a solid mix of weights and cardio. Don't let having hypothyroidism slow you down. Take your meds and keek hitting the gym.

Thanks for the advice anon.
Glad to hear that your sister is able to handle it well.

Looks like it will just take a little time to level out and get normal. The tests in January will probably double check everything and correct those levels if needed. Give it time. Just posting to wish you best of luck bro and ask your shitty doctor to actually explain things to you.
>they get mad when you google things, but don't explain anything so you have to google it
>the fuck do doctors want
>>
>>34993728
Thanks a lot anon.
And you're right about the docs for sure.

Just wanted to drop in and say my condolences. The thyroid is one of the most complex fucking things in the body. When that metabolic thermostat starts acting up, shits tough. Good luck man and hang in there

>>34992730
My mom had that. Had to get her thyroid removed because of it. Hopefully her shit genes don't fuck my shit up.

Take your pills senpai

Thanks anon.

Yeah, my mother and sister both have it as well as some extended family too.
THANKS GENETICS.

My Mum has Hashimoto's and played tennis until quite recently (her knee has been fucked since she was a kid and the physio finally banned her).

She isn't a landwhale and talks the dog walking every day.

tl;dr thyroid issues don't magically turn you into a hambeast and there are plenty of alternatives to lifting.

Woah dude, these sound like what I've been feeling for a while but I'm not sure, It's hard to gauge what fatigue everyone else is and seeing what's "normal." Recently my throat has been a bit tighter making it hard to sleep, how long/ difficult is it to get diagnosed?
>>
>>34994644
It's not too difficult.
You just need to have a blood test done for it.

>>34994690
Cheers
>>
>>34994728
hope you can find out what's causing your problems mate.
>>
>>34992730
You're on thyroid-replacement therapy. The problems you've (lethargy, weight gain, depression) are pretty standard for hypothyroidism and should resolve when you get back to normal thyroid levels.

Take your pills and you should see improvement as your T4 levels increase.
