Dear /fit/

Do you use chalk or straps?
What about belts?

In yes case; for which exercises and why?

lift well

I'm at lmao3pl8, so I don't lift heavy enough to justify any of these

My grip is shit so I can't go above 120 kg deadlift without straps, with straps I do 150 kg (70 kg bw). I do deadlift for my back, so I don't want grip to be a limiting factor. Never belt.
>>
Chalk for everything. I don't see why you would train without it, all it does is let you use your full grip strength. I chalk for anything where my hands touch a bar.

Straps when I do snatch/clean pulls or final heavy sets of DL. It's rare that I DL though.

i dont see why that should prohibit you from using chalk. i mostly 3,5pl8 myself but when i do high reps or pull ups after DL i could definetly use some chalk (dont have any but am gonna buy)

all it does is help you build your grip strenght

Someone in my gym recommended using chalk for everything as well, including squat, but i dont grab the bar with a firm grip when i squat, i just kind of hold my fingers on the bar to help my albows and shoulders stay in place and stay tense - is that a big mistake?

>chalk
yes, diddys from the first warup
>straps
occasionally for diddys and general grippy assistance
>belt
always pretty much, no reason not to
>>
Always use chalk. I only use straps for snatch grip exercises, otherwise its mixed grip. I only use a belt over 75% of my 1rm

I use straps for 5+plates on diddy
I use straps for clean pulls and snatch pulls
I use wrist wraps for 100+ dumbells or 275 on bench
I use knee wraps for anything over 3 plates on squat

Doesn't belt make you use your back muscles a lot less?
>>

>Doesn't belt make you use your back muscles a lot less?
assuming not b8

tl;dr no

>Doesn't belt make you use your back muscles a lot less?

top kek
Fuck knows where you got that from m8. It merely increases intra abdominal pressure, making your core more solid.

Not b8, I had my humble beginnings in lifting in the military, surrounded by fucking idiots who spewed out bad advice, they told me lifting with belt was only for people with weak abs and pro level powerlifters.
>>
>>34945356
okay, well, they were wrong
going to mention that despite above data there are v. successful powerlifters who believe in training beltless for periods of time (CWS for example)
>>
>>34945371
So from a recreational lifting point of view (my goal is simply to be bigger and stronger than I am now), lifting with a belt would be recommended? I'd probably only do it for deadlifts, can't see where else it would be an advantage.

General consensus is "yes" in the PL community. If there is some benefit to beltless work it's that stabilizer Y gets to pick up a tiny bit more slack but at the same time you're moving less weight which obv. leads to less training effects for the rest.

It helps in squat and diddy a lot, will depend for bench. Basically anything that has you bracing your core will benefit from it though, so anything from diddys to OHP to good morning's.
>>
chalk as soon as i touch a barbell (except skwats)

straps when deadlifting above 3plate+
>>
>>34943959
Use straps for deads after my grip goes. Usually at about 150kg.

Do it so I don't have to worry about snapping my bicep up from mixed grip. Also don't see a reason to fuck my thumbs up.
>>
I use chalk for DL. Belt for anything above 3pl8. No straps since I just use mix grip on heavy sets.
Squat I belt up for anything above 250 lbs.
>>
>>34945581
Additionally:
- Use wrist wraps for power cleans and front squats
- Use straps for wide gripped shrugs
>>
>Bench
Nothing

>Squat
Chalk when going > 85% 1RM.

>Deadlift
Chalk when I hit working weight.

My grip strength is pretty shit, I couldn't do 3 rep 3pl8 deadlift overhand grip with chalk. Could do it fine with alternating.
>>
chalk for diddylifts, belt if lifting over 350 lbs
belt for bentover rows
