Unless you're very tall, 40 pounds shouldn't be a problem at all. With discipline, you lose it in 4-5 months easy.

Remember less carbs = less insulin and less fat stored.
Eat shit loads of protein and plenty of fruits and veg. No breads or pastas. This is pretty obvious shit for weight loss but CRUCIAL for a type 1.
Loads of cardio and maybe try metformin tablets too.
