This. I compete in cycling mid-distance events mainly, <1 hour. At as low as 13.5% bf I was still being held back by the extra 3kg of weight. Jason is essentially a HAES activist now.

Sort of. In any sport where moving yourself is the focus, it is advantageous to weigh less. In any sport where moving something outside of yourself (like sumo, lifting, various forms of combat) extra body fat can be advantageous, not to mention sports like distance swimming where having a very specific body fat% helps with bouyancy. Saying someone isn't fit because they're fat is like saying someone is fit because they're skinny. There are a ton of other factors.
