The shade of nude heels are supposed to match the wearer's skin tone in order to give the illusion of longer legs. A lot of the time (99% of the time) the color's off. It's like when a girl puts on foundation that's obviously way too light or dark for their skin tone.
Also, black heels would be better almost all of the time.

But the point is to give a relative illusion, they are not trying to actually match their skin tone. I would say it is different then makeup because makeup is meant to be part of the skin. Nude is relatively classic color just like black, so when worn it doesn't really give that mismatched appearance. In fact I think it looks better when there is a clear color difference
