Just because something is complex doesn't make it good. I used to listen to Steve Vai and the like when I was a teenager. Technical proficiency doesn't make for a good song. The combination of actually expressing emotion and technique are what make music good. Obviously country is simple. It's the minute subtleties in the playing that make it great. Jazz never seems to manage to go anywhere with it's phrasing. I never hear valleys and peaks and the treks to get there in it. It's always just boring monotonous doodling the likes of Eddie Van Halen. They're playing properly, but not much feeling is ever coming from it. It's just technical dribble as far as I can hear.

when people think of dadrock they usually think of the 60's and the 70's, sometimes the 80's. most of /mu/'s favorite bands from those eras are were not that popular in their prime and thus were not listened to by the average dad. the dad didn't pass their knowledge of these bands onto their kids because they themselves didn't know about them, making them not very popular today.
some examples of non le wrong generationer older music includes king crimson, can, captain beefheart, and nick drake.
some examples of le wrong generationer older music includes AC/DC, led zeppelin, the beatles, and pink floyd.
now before anyone gets uppity and think i'm shit talking MUH FLOYD, me writing all of this out says nothing about the quality of the artists i've listed here. except for AC/DC, all the le wrong generation dadrock bands i listed range from decent to great. it just so happens a certain group of people latch onto them, become fans of them, and are insufferable and obnoxious about their taste.
the velvet underground most definitely fits into the first category of artists i listed. they were the first alternative rock band in history and gave birth to the entire indie/alt rock/punk rock movements. they were also the first incarnation the modern hipster. coincidentally, /mu/ loves them.
