The trick is strong facial features, and a athletic body. Otherwise you look like a boring 90's IT nerd, especially if you are skinnyfat. Johnny Sins or Jason Statham type aesthetics is what you should aim for

I think some guys pull it off, I have a pretty ugly head so have just accepted looking good is no longer for me. Fortunately I have a lot more going on in my life.
I can't remember this guys name, but some of his fits are worth a look.
