I don't get this at all.. with a few exceptions, the primary objective of fashion is to look attractive. By being that thin without muscle, the vast majority of women are going to find you less attractive than you would be with a more muscular body. Runway models look like that because it is their job to have a physical appearance that a designer feels will act as a fitting canvas for his clothing. What am I missing?

It's not. Not saying I like skeleton fashion myself but fashion has always been a form of self-expression or to some even a form of art. Thinking of it like a way to look attractive is shallow but acceptable if you're not that into it.
