So you can change the time on them while wearing it
>>
>>9466676
>>9466696
Also because the left is typically the non-dominant hand and should theoretically be less subject to potential abuse.
>>
>>9466676
Most people are right handed so manufacturers designed them inorder to allow the wearer to wind the watch by spinningthe crown without taking it off, and that became the rule. Also, in the left, the right handed people didn't bash their watches that often thus, surviving better.
>>
>>9466696
not necessarily changing the time since that's not often something you do on a regular basis, but winding it.

Don't get out. Stay and learn, you're welcome either way.

Sadly, fashion brands watches are among the shittiest of qualitys you'll find. It's better if you keep yourself in the only watch kinda brands, the ones that doesn't make anything else and depend on their reputation. Quartz or mechanical is your choice and your choice only.
>>
>>9467835
Btw I know this doesn't apply to Invicta, but an Invicta is like kicking a little poor boy in the plums; you just don't do it.

>>9467835

Ohh, I see. Well I guess that makes sense, the chef is not going to tell the surgeon how to make a cut.

From personal experience, the designer brand watches have never failed me and they are very pretty IMO.

Regarding brands that only make watches, any not 'Rolex' expensive ones that are awesome looking?
>>
>>9467835

Also,is better if the lugs of the watch (the four thing that attach to the strappr bracelet) doesn't exceed the lenght of your arm. Another big no, no.

I always recomend Citizen and Seiko as great entry levels. If you are willing to drop up to a bit more than a grand you could get a Longiness, a Frederique Constant, etc... Some people here have a Cerberus for half that, etc...

It depends on how much would you like to spend.

If you put it back your ulna (wristbone) it won't look that big, I hope. Probably acceptable then.
However, 300-500 usd won'tmakethe cut for a Frederique Constant unless is secon hand.(used)
Hamilton, Tissot (the good ones) Cerberus among others are in this price rage.

I always like a little quirk in my watches. I'm not a fan of the brand because IMO you should never buy a watch from a company not mainly known for watch manufacturing...

But I do like the crown position. Hands could be longer and it looks like it'd be pretty big. Otherwise I think it looks nice m8, no hate from me.

How does it feel to know Apple is going to sell more of their solid gold watches than Rolex will in 2015? I'm talking their $4,000 model.
>>
>>9468184
I'd buy it.
>>
>>9468174

Just Rolex. I don't like Rolex. I appreciate fine watches, but just not Rolexes for some reason.

Also almost everything from Panerai.
>>
>>9468178
Don't get that watch. It's fucking hideous
>>
>>9468185

It's going to blow up in China. Apple products are already the most choice gift amongst the wealthy there. Giving them a chance to flex their wealth even more is going to make the Apple Watch Edition the best selling luxury watch ever.
>>
>>9468157
You know, that's actually not nearly as bad as I thought. I'm not a pocket watch kind of dude myself, but I know a guy who's got the mindset of getting multiple purpose items (Even if it's a little fedoraish), and who could actually make some good use of a watch like that, plus he doesn't really care much about the watch afficionado mentality around watch maker watches, so I think something like this as a gift would really lift his spirits. Thanks bro.

>>
>>9468257

That makes sense too. I don't really think I'm paying for the quality but for the design itself.

I, for one, would never EVER buy a Rolex, not even for the social status factor, because I find every single Rolex ugly.
>>

Hydroconquest is just so meh generic diver. There's nothing wrong with it on paper but it just does nothing for me.
>>
>>9468261

Not that good BFYB given the movement, but apparently outstanding overall quality given the price.

I handled a Breitling Superocean Heritage the other day. I was so disappointed. The bezel was awful. It literally felt like my Invicta 9937 OB.
>>
>>9468269
In black it doesnt do anything for me either, the blue in person however is really subtle and stunning when in the right light with the sunburst. For around 1k, I like this alot more than the competition

At that pricepoint you normaly get a 2824. ETA isn't anything special but this movement combined with the finishing of the watch its hard to find anything better new at that price

Lawyerfag here again.
So /fa/, before I went on my escape-from-the-fucking-cold-weather vacations that landed me on a on a nice, warm beach in Mexico's littoral, an anon asked me to post a better picture of my Chronometré Bleu and he was right, since my prior ones were taken with a cellphone and were shit; so, there you go:

(I should mention again that the profound and complex manner the light reflects on this extremely beautiful dial makes it a nightmare to properly photograph.)

This second pic is a bit twiked on lightroom because I wanted to emphasize the deepness of the dial that actually lets you see anoyher "layer" of blue, in wich the indexes are reflected like if it were wrotten in the bottom of water mirror you are seeing from above.

Those lines across the dial are there only because my messing around in the computer, but no really on the watch. (sorry about the poor quality of the pics, but I was in hurry with bad light and I even borrowed my gf silk scarf for the background.)

Also, there is another reason I'm posting again, and, belive it or not, it's because /fa/ actually delivered, in the form that I came in knowledge of a brand and specific model here that had flew off my radar everywhere else and, if it weren't for the anons here on 4chan, I would have never bought. So, thank you, -trully- you folks are awesome.

After seeing the watch I contacted the maker and started negotiations; it turned out the entire production was completely sold out a while ago -like anons told me-, except for one that a client kept on hold for a very, very long time but didn't actually bought it (due to the price probably).

The cost was indeed a bit too high of what I initially expected but I do belive the quality of the finished product justifies the pricetag and since the maker and I had become friedns and, amazingly, we were both members of another watch community, he offer me a discount either way. ;-)

I need advice

So it's been going pretty well for me lately and I have some disposable income and I've decided to get my dad a watch as a gift My budget is around the 3kUSD mark.

My current consideration is the Cartier Tank Solo - plz give opinions.

General guidelines would be that it should be elegant, clean and not too flashy

Thanks in advance.

>>
>>9469185
The Tank is a nice watch, but your budget place it in the quartz version rage so you might want to rethink your choice or drop another grand. I don't have anything against quartz but I do belive that paying more than a grand for a simple steel two hands quartz is paying exclusively for the name on the dial and nothing else. :-(

(Unless you're getting it in the grey market, in wich case I strongly advice you tomake sure about its authenticity and if its good then go ahead.)

Still, great to see other folks showing love to their dads. I got mine a Rolex President in whit gold. :-)

I don't know my watches that well so I really appreciate the advice m80 - if you don't mind me asking, what mechanism would I be getting if I dropped the extra grand?

Also that Rolex President (assuming I looked up the correct model) is stunning, but it's definitely too much for me atm.

I'm not totally sure but I think you'll get the Caliber 049 from Cartier, wich is an ETA based movement BUT unique to Cartier since they hold the propietary modification pattent. Not a bad movement at all.

Btw, I found you a link from a shop based in New York with a nicer price for a mechanical one. You can get the bracelt reference first and then bought him the strap and propietary clasp for a couple of extra hundreds, it's wiser. :-)

It's made by Messerschmitt. They've produced planes for Germany used in a minor conflict of the 20th century.
This specific model looks quite elegant and it's still reasonable priced (~220€), at least in the range what i would pay for a watch.

Does anyone know how I could get a Citizen Ana-Digi-Temp repaired? There's quite a lot wrong with it - the light button is stuck in/not working and the analog clock parts don't work. The temperature feature doesn't work either - about the only thing that does work is the digital watch part, date and alarm.

Do you think your standard mall watch repair shop would know how to repair a digital/analog hybrid?
>>
Question for you guys.

I work in motorsports and the work is pretty rough and tumble, but also the kind of thing where a watch is very useful to have. I'm looking for a watch that can handle the abuse of shop and trackside life, but isn't some chunky digital thing that looks like a middle schooler's watch. My experience is that resistance to scratches and chemicals and the ability to be quickly and easily cleaned are more important than impact resistance in my environment. Budget is around $300, give or take a couple hundred, and I prefer analog watches from real watch brands. Something that could be a casual-wear watch outside work and when I'm in the office would be nice.

Any suggestions?

I have one (obviously.)

A phone is harder to access when in awkward positions or in a high-sided racing bucket seat, which I spend a lot of time in at my job. It's not resistant to liquids or chemicals, has a fragile screen, and I don't want to reach into my pocket with grime or oil on my hands to pull it out. It also doesn't have a quickly accessible second hand or counter, which is something I need quite frequently.

I'm trying to find a good men's watch with a plain dial - no branding or logos. I don't want to spend more than 200 dollars. Any suggestions?

Is there one similar to that, or even cheaper/chintzier?

Cronograph case configuration but with no chronograph dials?? Yes it is.
Also, black hands??
Who are you trying to decive?
>Totally fake

Look, if you like the watch that's good, but don't try to pass it for a real VC. Why won't you get a nice Citizen ir Seiko?

0/10 unsuccesful troll
I have collected several high end watches over the years and belive me, this watch worths as much as its cost, and probably some more.
>Pic related, other of my watches.
Now, why won't you go troll the fuccboy thread? Chances are you'll be more succesful there m8.

You're an idiot. Look up the model. The dials look black because of the reflection, they are silver.

>>
>>9471646
Damn, thats ugly.
>>
>>9471692
Even if the hands are black polished or look that way due to a photograph reflection that doesn't change the fact that the subdials are marked to a seven days and twelve hour configuration. That is not a chronograph at all.
It. Is. Fake.
>>
>>9471732

>>
>>9471719
Well, not everybody has the same taste, and that's good.
