In reference to the dating life of a shorter man, the only time that being short really does screw you over (as far as being able to easily pick up girls) is in the club. If you're short, trying to pick up girls in the club will be 90% harder unless you're an exceptionally good dancer.
BUT, that only matters if you're trying to have one-night stands and shit. Otherwise, going to the club is a waste of time and money to begin with. Find more fulfilling and less mindless hobbies.
In the real dating world, i.e. casually meeting girls through mutual friends, or in college, or through work, or even just randomly at the store, it's all about personal preference. Perhaps you'll meet a girl who doesn't like short guys, so she won't give you the time of day. But, you could say that about any attribute -- not just height. You could be 6'3 and have an ugly face and that will deter women all the same (if they don't find your face attractive). Or, you could be 6'3 and have weird proportions, thus making you unattractive to certain girls. The list could go on and on.
It's all a matter of preference. Do some girls only date tall guys? Yes. Does that matter? No, the keyword is SOME girls. I can tell you through experience that plenty of girls don't give a fuck about height, and if you have an attractive face and fun personality (or any other of a plethora of good qualities) you're gonna be just fine.
