Never wear matching camouflage pants and top. It should always be one camp piece (fleck parka, but no fleck pants) or you will look like a soldier/maniac.

the only milsurp item I have is a US cold weather parka from like the 90s in woodland camo. It's really nice and does a good job of insulating but I feel like if I wore it anywhere in public I'd look like the unibomber or a terrorist.
Keep in mind that:

>you should never wear any garment from your own country's armed forces

An olive m65 is the best fucking jacket you can buy. Not that warm, but tons of utility and you can wear it with fucking anything. You can even wear it with a suit and tie.
Just avoid camo.

Milsurp as a fashion item can be done a couple ways. You can wear the pieces unmolested as a statement, or you can dust off those sewing skills and make/modify an interesting and unique garment. Milsurp boots are obviously great in some cases, like the classic McRae jungle boots or the old FFL jump boots.
Knoch would probably have some solid insight about milsurp fashion, but I haven't seen him post in a few days. Here's his tumblr, http://herrurst.tumblr.com/ , there are loads of examples.

Velvet black Dylon. After a long while of wear with it through rain, sweat ect, you will begin to see the pattern underneath. It's that simple. That guys jacket has seen a wash cycles to get it where it is.

Any way. Just dye it black with Dylon. It's better than Rit as it is more concentrated. Dylon has pretty potent dyes. Also, do not get that shit on your skin. hehe. It's worse than permanent ink, that way.
