ive experimened a lot, nobody is none the fucking wiser or ever cared or mentioned my failures. one time i thought blue jeans, a polo and slip on shoes was cool. nobody remembers that day except me.
only way to do it is to experiment. some obvious things would be like combining techwear with small doses of plaid, changing the color palette, ripped jeans, and im sure theres certain grunge shoes that would have crossover appeal.
