Smartphones are incredibly useful and the excuse of "too much technology in our lives" shouldn't warrant choosing to not own one, especially considering the point of technology is to make your life easier or give you greater access to information.
I use mine mostly for: looking up train information, bringing up a map, reading books, browsing the web, making notes, transferring files, scanning documents, reading the news, shitposting on 4chan, using the dictionary, reading the weather, and texting people.
My phone call conversations last about a minute on average.

Fucking idiots all around, but Android users tend to think just enough about their purchases to do it horribly wrong. Specfags choose Android because they're afraid to leave their basements and have a physical experience with the phone before purchasing.
Here's what Google needs to do to corner the "high end" market:

Not the guy, but I have a large handspan through guitar and piano playing (never measured it properly but I can play a twelfth with thumb and pinkie and an octave with my pinkie und pointer, although I don't tend to do it), still I find phablets uncomfortable to hold. And uncomfortable to carry around in your pocket, for that matter. Also I use my smartphone with one hand like 90% of the time.

There are so many lovely things about it like the framed glass (doesn't scratch on the floor or something)

So disappointed by the new X. I still support Motorola as a company because they try some interesting ideas that aren't retarded (like samsung's fucking note edge) and support a lot of customization, but the new Moto X seems like a pretty big misstep. What makes it worse is that all the tech sites are going to praise the new metal band because the "premium feel" and the new flash layout for being "cool and unique".
The old Moto X had a really nice and refined but not flashy design, that's gone now.
Also the branding. It was nice and subdued before, it's hideous now.

I have an iphone 4 with the latest OS and it gets worse every time they do an update. I went to try out other phones and I have the same issues with all of them:
after you unlock it you can't touch the screen without doing something other than what you want to do. see pic related as an example.
there is simply no "neutral" area. if you touch any part of the screen, something will happen. if you move your finger, something will slide down, or pop up and 90% of the time it's a feature i would never, ever use.
i don't know if i'm doing a good job describing the problem, but if anybody knows what i'm talking about, and knows a touch phone that works better, let me know, please.

The nokia and the Moto X you linked to both have good interfaces IMO. The Nokia runs Windows Phone, which I personally think is the best looking phone OS, but there are other drawbacks that keep me away from it.
I have a moto X and the interface is pretty good. I use a launcher and an icon pack because I like having a bit of customization, but it basically runs stock android, so the UI is consistent throughout.
Also, android L is coming pretty soon, so the UI will get even better.
