How come high waisted pants were a thing but they just kept slowly getting lower and lower (with some fads and microtrends) up until now? Will high waist pants ever return? I think it looks much better despite the fashion "rule" with how long your torso should look compared to your legs.

TL;DR: why have pants been getting consistently lower and will high waist make a comeback?

whitey likes to dress like 2pac

One can hope. It makes more sense in terms of functionality.

I also believe it looks better. It enhances the shoulders when you tuck your shirt in. It's much more comfortable as well.

It existed for a long time, too. Even as late as the early 90s, there was still some high-waist, tuck-ins going on.

It's mainly due to dress standards becoming more casual. No tucking and wearing pants at the hips led to lower rises. Plus high waisted pants became associated with old and unfashionable people.

Don't think high waisted pants will ever come back to the mainstream, but thankfully the ultra low rise trend seems to be slowly dying

Well yeah, it's partly true, but high waisted pants can be comfy as fuck, especially if they're soft pants
>>
Tbh I wear mid-to high rise all the time I definitely think it's on the comeback if anything but a reaction to how dumb low rise looks.

yes

Oh yeah I agree, I'm talking casual in looks - they appear more formal, while low rise gives a more "relaxed" look, and lets teens show off their undies as >>11488037 said

Also the rise of fast fashion is probably a factor, low rise pants would be cheaper to manufacture

It's been a thing with women for years. I wonder why men are lagging behind so much.

sort of related: can you tuck in sweaters tho? I remember someone linked to Reddit and LITERALLY everyone said that you can't tuck in sweaters, and 90% said you shouldn't tuck ANYTHING in.

Pic semi related

most of reddit's demographic (plus 4chan's, to an extent) is quite young, and have probably never tucked their shirts casually or worn high waisted pants. half are still stuck in their minimalist streetwear phase. i wouldn't listen to their advice.

tucking in sweaters is a highly debatable subject, but i think in some situations it's acceptable.
