I have to wear a lab coat at work most of the time. I can't do any crazy alterations, but I can let a tailor make adjustments to the general fit.
any suggestions or am I doomed?

Lab coats are /fa/ if you deserve it. If you're wearing a lab coat and your life has nothing to do with being in a lab then you're just as bad as someone who wears crutches and has no injury.

Lab coats can be /fa/ if it fits you.
Don't wear oversized labcoat. You should tailor it if you need (i had to do this cause sleeves in mine were to long). Wear nice clothes underneath.
I wear dress shirts and pants with mine during clinical classes.

I'm sure they can be /fa/ because they looked good on some people on House, but I always look like a huge dork with it and safety goggles on.

Cheers. I sort of had the feeling that you can only really dress a lab coat up and not down. Because it looks so formal, anything below business casual is just going to look odd.

The lab coats are provided by the company. they look almost exactly like the one in the picture and have a monogrammed name. The only thing I can do is wear matching stuff underneath and alter it slightly for a better fit.
If I were a doctor I'd get a Mizuno or Le Coq Sportif coat; they look pretty nice
