You can easily rock the DL with lot of stuff though, if you wrap it up it's just "basic" tee with interesting effect and texture.
Prisoners aren't as easy to throw in other fits but they still work with lot of stuff.
And height is hardly a problem either unless it's a big deal for you in which case I can't really convince you otherwise.

I'm 5'9 and wear a S double layer! They're definitely meant to be a bit longer than an average t shirt, and even after that they stack up. Mine can be anywhere from waist level to mid-thigh, but that's true of the models I see wearing them too.

I've been lurking here now and then for inspo or out of pure curiosity. I've never considered buying Ricky's stuff considering the price and my strict budget. I have admiration for the people that wear rick owens, but I'm not convinced I belong there.
That said, I have a small story.
I had a dream last night where, for some reason, I was staying in a hotel. I was in possession of a pair of triple milk geobaskets, and wore them for an entire day.
In the morning, I woke up extremely happy. Like something I was extremely content and I was looking forward to get out of bed.
For a split second I had this lovely feeling, but then it left. When it left, however, I realised I didn't know why I was happy. I racked my brain thinking there was something in the day that was causing this, but nothing came to mind.
Then it hit me. I recognized the feeling.
It was the feeling of having bought a new clothing piece that you fell in love with.
It were the geos. The mere thought of owning a pair made me happy.
Thus I've decided to buy them when the time is right. It's not exactly my style yet nor do I have the clothing pieces to boot, but I'll give it time, lurk more and buy them when it feels right. But for now,

What composition is your double layer? The silk/viscose and bamboo ones won't stack and cling as much as unstable cotton does.
The tighter the tee fits, the more easily you'll be able to stack it as well. If yours has stretched out too much, you may want to give it a quick hand wash so it shrinks back down to size.
Your bottoms will also affect how the tee stacks. The more structured your pants are the more likely the shirt will just sit over your pants and go no lower. Having your shirt fit tighter also helps clinging to your pants. Usually part of the shirt gets caught at the waistband and prevents the shirt from falling any lower for me

I've worn my baskets in some fairly heavy rain/snow and my feet have stayed dry. They're pretty heavy duty. Also, the holes are just decorative - if you feel the toebox internally they don't go past the outer layer.
