Then Dick Dale started shoegaze.
That first JMC album had a lot of influence on shoegaze but it had more of a noise rock sound to it along with general post punk sensibilities.

Musically one of the worst bands of all time. Aesthetically, one of the best.
There is some truly great shoegaze. Even mbv and Slowdive were 100x as talented as these hacks.
