In elementary and early middle school I'd wear shit like khaki knee-length skirts with New Balances and midcalf socks, long-sleeved shirts covered in glitter and sequins, tightly-wrapped glitter scarves and those headbands with the ribbons hanging from the bottom.
Nightmare mode didn't occur into eighth grade in specific, which was my era of oddly-placed hair bows and flowers, cheap, non-flannel plaid shirts, Pantera/Linkin Park/etc. shirts with the collars messily cut, and pirate boots similar to pic related but suede, laced with sneaker laces and twenty times cheaper.
The cringe reached intergalactic proportions.
