It's happening, /fa/. Designers have been experimenting, and now it is filtering to the streets (mostly among women at the moment) and fashion magazines.

While I do not think skinny jeans will leave the spotlight, I think another silhouette will enter the mainstream as well: Loose, tapered (often cropped or rolled) pants. The taper/hem is key - this will distinguish this trend from the shoe-drowning JNCOs of the 90s and bell-bottom revival of the early 2000s.

As I said, slim styles will never go out of style. I just think this is the direction we will be heading. Screencap this. Also, post loose, tapered inspo (male or female).

Literally how long has avant/alt been hated/jerked off over on fashion forums? By now this ~trend~ has hit Target im sure. I like to experiment with textiles and shapes, so im into the aesthetic, but it isnt new by a longshot.
>>
>>11268058
Oh, it's not new among designer and elite fashion circles.

I am only judging based on what I see on the streets (and I live in a major city). "Fashion-forward men," (note the quotes, as I am talking about a majority here, not the avant-garde) and the majority of women are still wearing skinny pants. I only see these loose cuts on a small fringe of the population.

I don't know the first, but the other two are Yohji and Asos.

Search things like "cropped linen trousers" or just "linen trousers." You'll get a variety - some will be very loose and pajama-like, while others might have a taper.

In Australia this hasnt caught on, but have a peek at streetsnaps elsewhere it has been gaining momentum for years. The japs in particular have done excellent things with this, some even having exagerated oversized fits while still being tasteful. Think Yohji hakama pants and the like

Really digging the flecked fabrics. Glad to see they're making a comeback in natural fabrics; the last time they were in style was the 80s but usually in a shitty polyester blend.

Not a fan of the shoes but I think that's just a personal taste thing. Bigger issue imo is that the shirt is too crumpled. I think you have to be very careful about keeping your stuff looking fresh with loosecore or it just starts to look sloppy.

definitely one of his worst fits. Also illustrates a big issue with loose wave - you need a jacket or really loose, boxy shirt or your hips look ridiculous. I think part of that in this pic is that he's wearing pants that are too large, but most Yohji/cdgh pants just have a ton of fabric at the top, so they make your hips look huge. Pretty much requires a straight fitting jacket to cover up the curves created by the pants. Look at >>11270705 and >>11272377 and imagine them without the jackets, wouldn't look great.

Flare and taper feels fresher, though. Straight fits have already been done within the past 20 years, yet we'd have to go back further (if at all) to see stuff remotely resembling flare and taper.

I don't know - I like it better. It's more interesting to me, and seems more balanced with respect to footwear.

I like flare and taper, we're not ready for 100% loose but this trend is going to open the doors for that.

1st of all you need a better camera

it looks cheap and boring because of the champion sweat pants, and drug store flip flops

It just looks like you shop at walmart and dont care anymore

Yohji has been doing this for ages, do you guys just gobble up trends instead of doing research and discovering styles yourself?

I've never liked flare and taper on guyssince it just looks like one of those 'squatbros' trying to wear skinnies, but on women is looks absolutely amazing

youre just not next level enough to pull them off
>>
>>11276507
Flare and taper you dumbfuck
>>
>>11276512
flare refers to the bottom of the pants 'flaring' out more than the knee/thigh and taper is the direct opposite
you cant have a flare and taper
your wording isnt even clear in the first place
>>
>>11276518
You have the thighs flare out and have it taper knee down. Did you just ignore pretty much every picture in here?
>>
>>11275539
what the fuck are you talking about?
>>
>>11276552
the term flare in pants has always reffered to the bottom of the pants
i get what youre trying to say but flare is not the appropriate word to use
>>
>>11276567
Because that's where clothes have traditionally flared. Yohji etc have it flare out at the thighs and taper down from the knees but it's still flaring out at the thighs. Are you retarded?
>>
>>11276581
>Because that's where clothes have traditionally flared.
thats exactly why its stupid to use it in this context, because of it is so often used to describe pants that widen towards the end, it carries the assumption that you are generally reffering to pants of that style
even the fucking dictionary says it especially refers to a garment that widens towards the end of the hem
>>
>>11276208
Just hunt around for the terms "carrot fit" or "pleated pants". Generally should give a similar silhouette
>>
>>11276597
Meanings change. The flare simply isn't at the hem now. Stop being so autistic please, thanks. Flare and taper

>>
>>11276615

yea but the phrase is extremely confusing when you say"flare" this is what you are going to make people think 100% of the time. Yohji pants Arent really "flaring" they are just baggy and tapered heavily. Now yohji does have some pants that are flared at the top(they look like the ww2 german officer pants but I highly doubt you think those are going to catch on because they wont). Flaring usually looks more dramatic(flared disco pants and german officer pants) while the yoji pants are more like a continuous and smooth transition between baggy at the top and slimer at the ankles

the pants could look really good if youd make a somewhat lose rubber band inside around the cuff so that it gets a little tighter form at the ends like this pants

Lol this has been going on for years, almost to a point where it feels as it's peaking nowadays, it won't ever go out of style but it's "peaking" in that it's nothing special to see.

What is / has been coming back for the last ~year or so is actually the "shoe drowning JNCOs / bellbottoms".

this has been here since the 80s m8. rei, yohji, and issey all did looser fits then compared to the hypersexualized stuff of mugler and co.

>>11283127
slim fit != loosewave. loosewave is cut very differently. usually the pants have a wide seating area which slowly goes wider and wider until the mid-thigh then tapers down to the leg
>>
>>11283220

If you're going to trace it back in that way then you can say it's been here since the 15th century.

Having been around =/= coming back into prevalence. Also kek >muh 80s japanese juxtaposition to le mugler that everyone who has read anything about yohji and rei likes to spout, completely negating the rest of what was going on in the 80s
