Post watches you drool over. No need to actually own them, just dream about them. Feel free to comment, compare, and critique. I'll start by posting a few I like.

Pic related: my dream watch, Breitling Navitimer (~11,000 AUD). I just think it's beautiful, interesting, classic, and functional. Plus the 43mm size fits my wrist well.

Rolex submariner. A true classic and I'd love to own one but I feel like you're paying a fair bit just for the brant and for the price point (7-10k), there are probably better watches out there. I also find it a bit gawdy, atention seeking, and plain boring compared to some of the competition.

AP Royal Oak Offshore

It's a fun take on a historic design that's ideal for casual wear.

My personal watch, Baume and Mercier Clifton - attractive but not exactly exciting. About 3,500 AUD.

It's definitely very busy and at a glance I agree, but I think if you were to live with it everyday you might enjoy the level of detail.

>>11263268
Not a fan of the really hard edges and big numbers but I really enjoy the "fun take on a historic design" aspect. I'm new to the watch world, how the he'll do you pronounce AP properly? Haha.

Pic related is the Rolex Yachtmaster; I feel the same about it as the Submariner - I'd love one but there are a lot of others I'd buy first.

Another one of my favourite brands. I think that given the difficulty most guys have in wearing any significant amount of jewellery, watches are really important and can be a source of great joy and sensation of achievement.

I just can't get into a lot of the modern designs like Hublot (especially for the money) and find many others like Panerai a bit plain or even boring.

the words you're looking for are "display back". Visible working components makes you sound like a dingus
>>
>>11263521
I like some aspects of it. The dial font/print color is fun especially paired with the second hand...but those numerals. If they wanted to make an Explorer I junior they should have just done that instead of butchering the revival of the air-king
>>
>>11264590
Does that apply when you're also referring to the front?

The front of the watch. So my question is "does the phrase display back also refer to watches where the internal components of a watch be seen from the front (dial/hands)" like pic related?
>>
>>11264668
No, the watch pictured there would be called a skeleton watch. A display back is like the A. Lange & Sohne you linked before where instead of having a metal case back it has some sort of crystal you can see the movement throught
>>
>>11264668
btw, unless you are buying high quality.. skeleton watches tend to be very cheap chinese movements. They have done things aesthetically to seem much more complicated and embellished parts that are usually quite plain.

Any suggestions for good brands Tha make them? I love the idea and have cash to spend on a good one.
>>
>>11264680
Well the blancpain you just linked me. Generally any high end brand has one skeleton. With the exclusion of rolex. It all really depends on your price point. You say you have money to spend, watches can cost as much as homes
>>
>>11264689
>>11264689
Breitling don't. Nor do Baume and Mercier. Any other suggestions? Yeah, I'm well aware of that. How about the 1-10k range?
>>
>>11264708
Don't get you thong in a ruffle, I was asking for a price point. Baume et Mercier actually does make the Skeleton Classima. It's a little more revealing than an open heart. There are obviously exceptions like breitling. A skeleton kind of conflicts with their brand image, but who knows. Maybe they have made an obscure skelton model in the past.

That said, do you want new or used
>>
>>11263263
Steinhart Ocean One is made to look like it and costs just a fraction of the price, check it out famalam
>>
>>11264717
Open to either.
>>
>>11264756
on the low end of that there's some wonderful Hamilton skeletons like the viewmatic that are just under or barely scrape 1000. Just over 1000 to about 3500 there is Oris, which makes several skeleton models. If you max your price range a couple g's you could stretch to get and audemars piguet skeleton or a JLC skeleton used. If you're into the playboy style you could almost certainly grab a hublot skeleton for just above 10. Honestly though, I'm not sure what the attraction to skeleton is. I think it looks to busy myself
>>
>>11263263
you're also paying for top tier finish and high QC. also Rolexes will always be repairable, even 100 years later

OP here. I'm in love with it. How is it different? Why don't you wear it more? At least you can still get good money for it. Alternatively you got a family heirloom to pass on rather than a daily wristwatch.

>>

Ya, thats why that watch costs $60000 USD
>>
>>11264680
The other dude is correct. Patek, and Lange & Sohne are probably the two best, but you will pay minimum 20K USD
>>
>>11266314
Not the same dude, but the watch is big af and I tend to wear my Breitling Blackbird more.
>>
>>11266327
Best watch in the entire luxury market for the price point, hands down.
>>
>>11266314
Mine is a slightly different model, they do different models of the navitimer. Mine has a silver bezzle and a black leather strap. Don't get me wrong, I love it, but it's a bit formal to wear every day and it would get easily damaged with a large glass face.
I wear a breitling colt day to day, it's more robust, has a large metal body.

I'll definitely keep the navitimer, but i just feel like at the moment it's a bit of a drain on my account until I pay it off
>>
>>11263263
I wear Steinhart Ocean One black on a daily basis and having compared it hands on
with my friends' Explorer you can't realistically tell where these extra few grands went into.
Having said that however, I did started saving for Rolex SDDS as it feels like a right thing to do.
Buying a rolex after having worn an homage watch is like getting fresh vinyl record after listening to mp3 on your ipod, I guess.
>>
>>11266367
As in too thick? I currently have a 43mm watch and find it perfect for evertoday wear. Shame because I absolutely love that watch.

On another note, what's the most accurate watch?
>>
>>11266433
Very nice. I'm excited for you.

>>11266371
It's not a brand I'm familiar with but at that price point it's got some stiff competition. Is it just the aesthetics you like?

Personally I like it much better. It's clearly a nice "rolex" without being tacky. The last one you posted just looked like any other watch with the brand plastered on it. It's all my opinion though. You're the one paying for it who has to live with it.
