Well I for one have clipless pedals in my fixie and I ride that shit everywhere so I need a shoe that is compatible with my pedals and also walks well enough. You don't want to wear regular cycling shoes if you're going grocery shopping or generally planning to hop off your bike often. For the niche they're catering to they're not really that expensive; spd shoes pretty much start at $70
