The difference is mainly whether your phone drops onto an even surface or not. If it's an even surface (like the ground, which is the most common scenario), it will be protected. In any other case, it will not offer protection.

I myself don't use any protection at all. If my phone's fucked up, I buy a new one. I can get like 5 Huawei for the price of one little iPhone, so I don't care. Unprotected phones are most effay.
