Looks shit since the colors are too similar. If you're going to match denim with black pants either have the top be black or gray or a lighter wash denim.

Personally, I wouldn't. I'm kind of weird about not even wearing blue shirts with blue jeans, too. If they don't match exactly, it'll just seem like you got dressed in the dark. Plus denim is relatively textured, and I think an outfit looks better with only 1 textured piece.
Either way, it's not the dumbest thing you could do. I think women look better with denim jackets because they can wear a short one with black tights effortlessly.
